A Dozen Ways to Zip like Tarzan

Carolina zipline You’ll find plenty of the popular zip lines around the Carolinas.
Feel the fresh air at high-speed thrills. Get your zip like Tarzan experience on by choosing from a variety of pay-by-the zip line course or tour. After my summer trip at Myrtle Beach, SC I noticed a lot of teens and adults like such thrills. We use our GOpro camera at the swimming pool with our kids on the water slide this got me thinking how cool would it be to strap a GOpro camera on and zip across the lake. I haven’t done it yet but it sure sounds cool. Now you can hang out on any one of the many Carolina zip lines! Here are 12 zip line courses by locations:

Barnardsville,NC – Navitat Canopy Adventures
The course is located 20 miles north of Asheville, NC and is tucked away into the mountains surrounding Moody Cove. The canopy tour is entirely tree-based and features 10 zip lines, 120 to 1100 feet in length. New this year is the “Navitat at Night” tour where you zip among owls, posoms and fireflies with a lantern on the helmet.
Cost: $89, $79 for ages 14 – 18 (you must weight at least 90 pounds) (Night tours start at dusk and you must be at least 14 or older Thursday – Saturday for tours to last 3 -4 hours) Open daily until the end of November. Call 828-625-3700 navitat.com

Myrtle Beach,SC – Wonderworks Zip
At Broadway at the beach the Wonderworks Soar and Explore zip line is a tower-to-tower roundtrip – 500 feet ( 30 seconds each way) and 57 feet above the shopping/entertainment complex lake. The price is cheap if you just want to try it out.
Cost: $20 plus tax (you must be at least 5 feet 4 and weigh 80 pounds) For $26.99 you can do both the zip and rope climbing challenge. Call 843-448-7627 www.soarandexplore.com

Boone, NC – Scream Time Zip Line
Located on U.S. 421 about 11 miles north of Boone, NC, a 2 1/2 hour tour consist of 6 zip lines the shortest is 450 feet long and the longest is a granddaddy 2000 feet which is about a half mile. The longest one consist of 3 side-by-side wires you can race 2 co-flyers down the mountainside. Open daily.

Bryson City, NC – Nanthahala Gorge Canopy
The wildwater outfitter company has an 11 line zip course. Four start on a deck at ground level then move into the trees with the final one being 650 feet long.

ridge-to-ridgeMonroe,NC – Xtreeme Challenge
Located off 601 South nea Hill Top Restaurant includes 2 zip lines – one over 300 feet long and the other over 450 feet. Both go over the lake that’s on the property.
Cost: $75 (must be 5 or older) cost varies with size of the group. They accept no walk-up you must call ahead for a reservation only. Call 704-236-6729

Lake Lure,NC – Zip Line Tours at Boulderline Adventure Programs
This one has a 4 zip line ridge-to-ridge course that goes over woods and streams. Up to 10 people can fly the course at a time roughly at 2 hour intervals. 2 lines are done twice. 2 more lines are under construction. You must 40 – 265 pounds.
Cost: $40 per person (groups 5 or less) or $35 (groups 6 -10) Closed Mondays. Call 828-625-4913 www.boulderline.com

Charlotte,NC – Mega-Zip and Canopy Tour at U.S. National Whitewater Center
located in Charlotte, NC the Charlotte outdoor center at 5000 Whitewater Center parkway has a stand alone zipline which includes the all-sport, 10 activity pass ($49 or $39 for 9 yrs old and younger) You must weigh 45 pounds. It was closed for reconfiguring soon to reopen..check schedule.
On the grounds the center’s canopy tour includes 7 zip lines in its aerial challenges. You start on a ridge and go through a gorge and follow the Catawba River. The longest zip in the tour is 560 feet long which can take up to 4 hours to complete the tour. Open daily.

Hawksnest,NC – Seven Devils
Known as the Boone/Blowing Rock ski resort has added 10 year round zip lines ranging from
300 to 1800 feet in length. The course is 1.5 miles long. A second course with 8 lines just recently opened. Catch the grand views from elevations of 4500 feet at Hawksnest.
Open Daily Cost: $65 (must be 5 years or older) New course $75 (must be 10 years old or older because the lines are longer and higher) Call 800-822-4295

Fayetteville,NC – ZipQuest
There are 8 zip lines and one 1000 foot run crosses over the 150 feet wide falls. This course is in the sandhills in the Carver Falls area. You can see the old Mill House from several of the lines while zipping.

Rock Hill,SC – Canaan Zip Line Canopy Tour
Located at 3111 Sand Island Road – two turns off Interstate 77 on an island in the Catawba. There are 6 lines and each soars over the river. It’s owned by Camp Canaan, a nonprofit camp for kids but the zip line is for all ages.
(You must weigh 75-265 pounds) The basic tour takes 2 1/2 hours. Its open Friday and Saturday for all comers. Mon – Thursday is for corporate group tours of 10 or more.

Morganton,NC – The Bean Stalk Journey at Catawba Meadows
a 32 foot climbing tower and the theme is Jack and the Beanstalk and Star Wars. The elevated platforms resemble Ewok Villages. There are 10 zip lines and 5 on each of the 2 courses.

Long Creek, SC – Chattooga Ridge Canopy Tours
The wildwater outfitter – Chattooga Adventure Center in Oconee County are the buildings and grounds of Long Creek Academy, a school that operated between 1914 ad 1975. The 10 zip lines traverse more than 2 acres. You’ll pass by the main academy building which is a national historic site and fly over Academy Lake 4 times.
